Design Showcase at Futurebuild 2020
05/03/2020
As a winner of the Energiesprong UK Design competition we got the opportunity to join Energiesprong’s stand and present our work at Futurebuild - the Comic Con of eco-building and sustainable construction in the UK.
“Everywhere you turn at this year’s event you experience innovation and forward-thinking companies who are tackling the issues we are facing as an industry. But these aren’t futuristic or conceptual ideas, they’re tangible solutions which will make a real difference.”
-Martin Hurn, Event Director at Futurebuild
As part of the event, we gave a presentation on our development of real-time performance monitoring solutions to drive Energiesprong retro-fits forwards, as did other category winners such as Bowtie Construction, Constructive Thinking.
We also got the chance to speak to the Institution of Engineering Design and Technology about our win, and what we think of the work that Energiesprong is doing in the UK.
“As part of the Energiesprong competition we are trying to find better ways of measuring the performance of buildings both before and after they’ve been retrofitted.
“Theres some technical challenges in terms of getting hold of the right data in a reliable way from systems involved.
“We chose to focus on being able to compare the detailed performance of the building in real life with the model that was put together using the design phase. Very often those things are disconnected and people get surprised very late in the process that buildings aren’t performing as expected.
“We want to do that in real time, as soon as the buildings have been retrofitted.
“I think it’s the focus on the resident and the human behaviour side which makes us unique, on top of the detailed performance monitoring we’re doing.
“We’ve been very impressed with the work Energiesprong is doing, building the market both in terms of organisations with lots of properties that need retrofitting, and then building an effective supply chain.
“We’re proud to now be part of that supply chain as more projects come forwards.”
-Carnego Systems Founder William Box
Energiesprong want to encourage housing providers, suppliers, and organisations to join the net zero carbon housing movement, knowing that the UK is unlikely to reach its 2050 net zero carbon goal without the infrastructure in place for this to be realised.
It was great to be part of such an important and impressive showcase, and we are looking forward to working with Energiesprong to implement our building performance evaluation, billing, metering and monitoring solutions.
